CLEVELAND, Ohio — Guardian🌠s president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti likes life with the No. 1 pick in the 2024 Major League Baseball first year player dr🔜aft much better than if Cleveland had a selection further down in the order.
“It’s a fun time for us organizationally,” Antonetti told reporters Sunday. “There’s a lot of energy in our acquisition groups and within our scouting 🌳groups to canvas the whole country. We know we’ll get, for the only time in our organization’s h♔istory so far, we’ll get to choose literally any player that we want.”
Not only that, but Antonetti and his staff are looking to also maximize the largest amateur signing bonus pool in hist♊ory, about $1🎶0 million.
“So, there’s a lot of energy organiza🅠tionally around tha﷽t and it should be a fun two months for us,” Antonetti said.
When a reporter insinuated something about top-ranked draft prospect Charlie Condon and his 32 (no😼w 33) home runs, Antonetti did not flinch. Teams with picks further down the draft order will not have to worry about the 6-foot-6,🌜 216-pound Georgia slugger because he will likely be taken among the first few selections. Not so for Cleveland.
“Obviously in a normal year 💛we’re not spending a whole lot of time on him or anyone els♌e like it,” Antonetti said.
