UH debuts mobile ultrasound truck in Portage, Lorain counties for access to prenatal care

CLEVELAND, Ohio – University Hospitals MacDonald Women’s Hospital has launched a mobile ultrasound unit in Portage and Lorain counties to give more pregnant women access to🎐 prenatal care, UH announced recently.

“The flexibility and efficiency of the unit will allow our experts to care for more women during pregnancy and fill gaps in access to care,” Dr. David Hackney UH chief of maternal fetal medicine, said in a statement. “Throughout the country, and also iꦛn Northeast Ohio, health risks ofജ pregnancy like high blood pressure and preterm birth have been rising. Expert prenatal care, including fetal imaging, can help address this trend.”

The UH Mobile Obstetrics Unit, which launched in 🎶late April, travels five days per week to perform fetal ultrasoun𓆏ds for pregnant patients. The truck will be located in the parking lot of Center, 630 E. River St., on Tuesday and Friday.

On Monday, Wednesday and Thursda🦄y the mobile unit will be♛ at 6847 N. Chestnut St., Ravenna.

The truck is staffed with special✨ty sonographers, and medical experts review the ultrasounds remotely, UH sai🙈d.

Pregnant women should receive two to three ulꦚtrasounds during their pregnancy, to confirm the fetus’ heartbeat and estimated due date and detect potential complications for the mother or baby, UH said.

These recommendations for ways pregnant women can helpꦿ ensure healthy babies come from the

  • Get 400 micrograms of folic acid every 🐼day to help prevent major brain and spine birth defects.
  • See a healthcare professional regularlyꦆ✱ throughout pregnancy, and discuss medications and needed vaccinations.
  • Avoid alcohol, cigarettes, marijuana and other dr🐬൩ugs.
  • Get t🎃ested for sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV and hepatitis B.
  • Do not touch or change dirty cat litter.
  • Avoid overheating and treat fever promptly.
  • Keep diabetes under control.
  • Strive to reach and maintain a healthy weight.
